Kitchen Tip

I've never participated before so I hope I link it right =-) My tip for today is making beans in your crockpot. There are 3 people in our family. Two adults and one toddler. I always at least double my beans and freeze the rest. For us I make 4c dry which is plenty! They are perfect to throw into soups, season and make refried beans, throw into a casserole, add to rice for beans and rice etc. It's nice to have beans on hand then you don't have to run to the store for a can! I cook them and let them cool. Then I put them in freezer safe containers and they are ready to go! For more tips head over to http://www.tammysrecipes.com/!

How quickly do they thaw? Do you freeze them flat in baggies or something so it's quick? I hadn't even thought of freezing them! I am really bad about not planning ahead and I end up getting cans at the last minute even though I have TONS of dry beans. We live 30 seconds from Walmart - it's a blessing and a curse, lol! Some weeks we go to Walmart every day because we just don't think of anything we want for dinner until it's almost time. =P

I got a pressure canner JUST to can beans and I only did it once. I was glad I did, too! But now that it's summer and I'm already hot from being pregnant and wearing panty hose all the time, I don't want to get it out and do it again. =P But freezing I could handle! So yeah what do you put them in and how long does it take to thaw them? =) (Long comment for a simple question, lol.) =)
